Description: In this introductory workshop, participants explored the transformative power of the circle process (also known as council practice) for dad groups to build connections, establish grassroots leadership and uplift the voices and experiences of fathers in their communities and organizations. Rooted in the traditions of restorative circles, this session provided fathers and service providers with the tools to create supportive, inclusive spaces for dialogue and mutual support. The session included two father practitioners who shared their experiences participating in and facilitating dads’ groups using this framework.
During this interactive session, participants:
- Learned the foundational principles and practices of circle process.
- Developed an understanding of the importance of centering fathers' voices in community-building.
- Received a basic toolkit for effective facilitation.
- Explored and experienced various forms of circle practice and their applications.
- Reviewed a take-away sample schedule for a regular ritual that can be adapted for father-focused groups.
By the end of the session, participants were equipped with practical skills and insights to facilitate meaningful circles that foster connection and empowerment among fathers. Whether you are a father, a service provider, or someone interested in community leadership, this workshop provided valuable resources and inspiration to help you support and uplift the dads in your community.

BRIAN PALERMO is a father of two teen boys and loves it.
I spent a long time in the entertainment industry, then evolved into a facilitator who specializes in human connection skills. My niche is helping scientists become better communicators. I'm passionate about learning how to be a better dad and helping others with their father/child dynamics. Nature makes becoming a father quite easy, but it takes a lot of work and support to be a good dad. I hope to contribute some of that support through this and various other dads groups and mentoring groups.
