Child support is a complex and emotionally charged topic that can have a huge impact on people’s lives. It involves an intricate system of laws, policies and procedures that are often misunderstood and misrepresented. This leads to people having challenges when engaging with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services’ Division of Child Support. In 2014, the Division of Child Support established the Alternative Solutions program to assist parents in navigating difficult situations. The program works to empower parents who are struggling to meet their support obligation. Join us for a basic overview of parents’ rights and options within the child support system, followed by an overview of the Alternative Solutions program and how parents can take full advantage of this important and effective program.
About Our Presenters:
Tina Burnquist, Program Manager, Alternative Solutions Program, Division of Child Support
Tina Burnquist leads and oversees a highly competitive and compassionate program specialist team with a passion for change. Tina works with her team to help connect low-income families to resources and community-based organizations. She provides hands-on experience and the essential skills needed to be an integral part of building the Alternative Solutions program infrastructure. One of the two original support enforcement officers hired to the team in 2014, Tina’s network and input have been critical to the growth of Alternative Solutions. Tina worked at the Division of Child Support for 10 years prior to joining Alternative Solutions.

Mike joined DCS in the Yakima field office in June 2016 after 12 years working for nonprofit organizations. Mike has always worked with people to help them achieve their goals and set a good path for themselves. He has put in many miles to get services and information out to the people who need them most.
Since joining Alternative Solutions in 2017, Mike has worked his way up the team from SEO 2 to SEO 3. He has been an SEO 4 for the past two years. Mike helps get the word out about Alternative Solutions and how they can help parents get assistance to remove barriers they are facing and get a better understanding of their child support case.
Mike and his wife, Dalila, have been married for 13 years and have two fun and energetic daughters who keep them busy with school activities and sports.
